[Melodyne] Importing File

Hi JPR
Yes, I can hear it all in Melodyne. I didn’t try the control A but I did see the save and replace audio option in the file menu. I tried that and it worked. It must have replaced the file I was working from. In reaper I always duplicate the track so I can go back to the beginning if I need to. So this replaced the duplicated track with the pitch corrections I had done.
Here’s the whole process.
In reaper I selected the item which was the whole vocal track.
I then hit the context button on my keyboard. went down to the open in editor and hit enter on that.
I arrowed down to the second occurrence with Melodyne in it and it enter. I did see there’s a short cut key of control shift E. I have another program and that’s why the shift for Melodyne. It’s the second on the list. Otherwise I’d likely not need the shift.
I think this opened Melodyne and put the track in. I did the pitch corrections.
When I am done I then hit the file menu and the save and replace audio.
If there’s a better way for higher quality, please met me know. I’m not complaining about the quality but I am over half deaf and doing my best. I could be missing something.
Thanks. On to the next song soon.
Michael

Hi Michael.
I have no idea how this could have happened. Could you hear the whole vocal parts in Melodyne? Have you checked the file you exported in another player to see if it was complete? Whilst in Melodyne, maybe you could try pressing control+a to make sure the whole file is selected and re-export. That's my only idea for now.
Cheers,

Hey JPR
I got just enough from your message thanks. I had Reaper send the vocal track to Melodyne. I then pitch corrected the whole thing. Then I exported the file as a wave file but there is only the first 16 seconds of the song.
How do I export the whole song?
Thanks again.
Michael

Hi Michael.
If your external editor already points to Melodyne, first thing you need to do is select the item you want to process. If it's a whole vocal track, it has to be glued to one single item before you process it. Then you can use one of the actions to open either the item or a copy of the item into the external editor.
Of course, you won't be able to hear your vocal in context, but if that's okay with you you can tune it is desired. The problem comes afterwards. The item has to be resaved at the same location with the same name so that it actually replaces the previous one. You have to be careful with this because by default Melodyne saves your work into its own format. So you have to use the export function instead. I suppose this will work, I've never tried it yet, but I remember failing in processing a Reaper track with Melodyne before realising that was the reason and promising myself I will give it another try…

Hey Guys
I have a bunch of songs to work on. What is the best method for bringing the vocal track from Reaper into Melodyne? I know I setup the external editor for when I was using the NDVA method. Is this still the best way? If so, how to I do it? If not what is the best way for the highest quality.
Thanks a lot
Michael
